We Won the “Genki Grand Prize”

IMG_1760rThe organisers of WMDF and MoguFes, “Worlds Meet Japan” were awarded the “Genki Grand Prize” by Hokkaido’s main newspaper. The award recognises our efforts since 2008 in bringing together the peoples of different countries and in creating a vibrant and lively (“genki”) local atmosphere. We are grateful for this boost to the profile of our event, and we will work to ensure that it is the first of many honours.

That we were able to come this far is due to all the people that have supported us. We would like to say thanks to all of our amazing artists, especially those coming from overseas who almost all fund their own travel to get to our event. Also, the festival is supported every year by the sweat and toil of over 100  staff. This award is definitely a recognition for them. Thanks also to our fantastic sponsors, our audience, and to the locals around Motomachi Park who put up with us every year. Our representatives  collected the physical award, but the kudos is shared by all. The photo on this page shows the staff at our last staff meeting with the certificate, trophy and framed newspaper article.

Working towards our tenth anniversary next year, we are sure that the Genki Prize will catch the eye of many artists and help us to create yet more chances to meet new worlds. Thanks again to everyone, and see you in the park this year to celebrate.
