Staff Meet Overflows: Thanks!

The most important message in this blog post is: we are still looking for more volunteer staff! If you have some some time in August (can be just a few hours), please:

  • Register on Our Staff Page (You will get periodic emails with the latest news: no obligation)
  • Come to a staff meet. Dates in July:
    • July 19, 18:30 at the Machi-Tsukuri Center
    • July 29, 18:30 at Omachi Kaikan (just down the hill from Motomachi Park).

We are especially looking for people with some language skills, and people over 20 (we have jobs such as selling alcoholic drinks, handling the cash ticket proceeds at the main gate, and ensuring safe audience flow in the park that are best carried out by adults).

This said, our 2nd staff meet overflowed the main meeting room into the corridor outside and the neighbouring WMDF office space. Thanks to more than 90 people for turning out. Since there were so many new staff, there were introductions of this year’s artists, followed by a rundown of the “han” that we split staff into to run the event.

At the next staff meeting (Jul 19: in your calendar already?) most of the time will be spent doing preparation work for the festival, so we hope for an even bigger turnout. WMDF really wants its staff to have fun at our event, so the more staff we have, the better. Also, this year, we are running for 7 days for the first time, and we want to be able to give people time off during the event to recharge…. OK, OK, we repeated the message enough. Become a staff member and help us (and yourself!) enjoy a great August.

A Packed “Worlds Meet” Bar Kicks off 2016

WMDF is produced by “Worlds Meet Japan”, so our first event this year was the “Worlds Meet” Bar.  We completely filled the cocktail bar Concord 21 to standing room only. A huge menu of world cocktails and beers was enjoyed by all, including some recovering from  the  same day’s Hakodate Marathon.

Bar staff and floor staff roles were carried out by the core organisers of WMDF, as a special thanks to our volunteer staff and customers.

BGM was compiled from previous WMDF artists, and the  posters, fliers and tickets for this year’s event were all available. The Whole Week Sponsor Passes are selling fast, so get yours soon before the limited edition of 999 runs out.

Our event relies on the efforts of many volunteers, so we were really happy to meet WMDF newbies who were interested in becoming staff for the first time. Come along to our staff meetings (just observing is also OK), or register on our Staff page. The next important date is the staff meeting on  Jul 19 (Tue)  from 18:30 in the Machi-Tsukuri Center in Juujigai.
