First International Artists Arrive

WMDF is underway! Our first international artists, stalwarts Toozalii Community artists, are in Hakodate and will be covering Motomachi Park and the Perry Hiroba with flags over the next two days. They are seen below at Hakodate’s tourist spot the Trappistine Convent. The main WMDF event is coming very soon, and the weather forecast looks good, so get ready for some serious festival action.

008 International Group Profile: Indonesia

July is here. WMDF is getting closer and closer. Today’s weather in Hakodate is wet and rainy, so the famous night view is not visible… We hope it improves for this year’s group from Indonesia, as one of their activities is an audience participation “kecak” dance on top of Hakodate mountain! If you are interested in taking part, check out this link with details of the workshops.

Warna Indonesia

Warna-905

“Warna Indonesia” (literally “Indonesian colors”) is a group of skilled performers who specialise in a wide variety of Indonesian performing arts, all working and learning together under the motto of providing an ‘Indonesian touch on arts and culture.’ They also actively investigate other cultures to find common ground, and to promote ‘Peace and love’ through arts. Established in the year 1990 by Ms. Tanti Horii, and Mr. Ai Syarif, the group now has many members who are also skilled professional performers and individuals in their own rights.

008 International Group Profile: India

As well as large groups of dancers and solo performers, WMDF brings you many music groups and bands. We think you will love our lineup this year! We start our profile announcements of music groups with this great trio from India.

Triaum

10504912-905Triaum comprises three young artists, Amit Joshi, Anup Joshi & Manoj Bhandwalkar, who have devoted themselves to various percussion instruments. The group aims to create universal music that goes beyond the boundaries of language, ethnicity and culture by combining the sounds of a variety of the ancient instruments of India such as Pakhawaj, Tabla, Daf, Dholak, Dholki with modern acoustic & electronic instruments such as the Octopad, Western Drumset, Djembe, Bongo, and Darbuka. WMDF thinks you will find something truly fresh in the synchronised sound and lighting of TRIAUM’s varied and thematic musical creations.
