A Senegalese-Japanese afro beat band started by frontman Omar Gaindefall.“Begue” means “enjoy” in Wolof, the most widely spoken language in Senegal. Their original sound mixes Omar’s traditional Senegalese “Griot” style with modern genres such as reggae, jazz and pop. In 2015, their highly acclaimed performance at the African Festival Yokohama was attended by African ambassadors in Japan, and they have also performed at the welcome party for Mamady Keita, one of the world’s most well-known and respected djembefolas. In 2016, Omar organised the first SENE-JAPON Festival in Senegal, in aid of Senegalese children. Having gone on many tours throughout Japan, Afro Begue continue to discover and perform new styles of African music.
