Started in 2003, GONNA take Japanese drumming “Wadaiko” around Japan from their studio based in Nagoya’s industrial heartland. Their unique world style combines the Japanese drums with African marimba. Their performances attempt to move beyond constraints, and they have staged events ranging from two-hour concerts in thousand-seater concert halls to small live performances at cafes and temples. GONNA’s music resists categorisation into one genre, and they have a wide repertoire that spans traditional Wadaiko pieces, sophisticated original pieces, and contemporary classical pieces. They believe that music has the power to enrich lives and to touch people’s hearts.
