A symbiosis of cultures, “Ape” is an indigenous Ainu word meaning “fire” and “Wayra” stands for “wind” in Quechua, an indigenous language of the Andes and highlands of South America. These concepts form the basis of this collaboration between an actress from Ecuador and an artist from Hakodate, both active in local arts and culture, for instance producing spiritual dolls in their “Atelier Artepiritu” initiative. At this year’s festival, they explore the importance of nature through “Young Peoples’ Theatre” performances in the Deneb area. “Fuego de Sul y Viento del Norte tejiendo Mundos!” — southern fire and northern wind knit the world.
