Traditional Kamishibai writer and performer Yoshito and songwriter Hiuta have collaborated since 2006 to present a modern version of the art of “kamishibai”: storytelling using pictures. They embrace the importance of communication and smiles through their music and illustrations. Their original output spans educational themes such as stories made for the “Japan Association for Food Education and Communication” to whimsical advice on how to shop at IKEA. Based in Matsue, they perform around 150 shows a year in various venues including schools and cafes, and in 2014 staged their first international performance in Cambodia.
