First, think of Ema’s bow not as being played, but as singing. Their piano melts into the sound, and their rhythm is woven by a journey created by indigenous instruments from around the world. It is not just another sound, but something that once it is given form and set free, can be interpreted in myriad ways. One translation of “Yurai” is “rocked”: this describes perfectly the musical and figurative effect of their stages on both audience and performers. After moving listeners for fully eighteen years as “Ema & Eso”, including performing at WMDF, the duo are now joined by their two sons. Welcome to Taka on bass and guitar, and Tomo on percussion. So, Yurai is born as a family quartet in 2014. At WMDF, they will genuinely allow us to meet new musical worlds.
