Thank you for your interest in our event. WMDF makes an international program each year by selecting from all the groups that send us applications. We also program special appearances by approaching some groups directly, or by accepting personal recommendations.

In general, overseas groups fund their own travel all the way to Hakodate and WMDF then takes care of everything else (including accommodation, food, and transport around town). We also have “self-funding groups”, described on the next page.

WMDF accepts applications on a rolling basis all year-round, with a deadline of Oct 20 for attending the following year’s Festival. We make the final decisions on participation on the third Saturday in December. Note that for applications received after the deadline of 20th October, we can typically offer only waiting list places for the upcoming event.
