Welcome to the “Voices of Our Festival”. WMDF Staff interview artists, MoguFes booth owners, audience members and more. We want to share all the amazing stories of all the amazing people at our event site.
Can you tell us your story?
1. Where are you from?
– I’m from Ecuador and my band partner is from Hakodate. So, we are talking about Ecuador and South America when we stay in Hakodate. On the other hand, when we stay in Ecuador, we’re talking about Hakodate and Japan.
2. What culture inspires you to play your performance?
– We are looking for the place similar to Ecuador and Hakodate and play our show in that place. We open our art studio not just playing performance in Hakodate. In the studio we’re looking for the importance of nature and something people can share in the different culture and in the different races to make art. You can see our work of art under the tree of the Bunda area.
3.What is your New Beginning?
– We are playing a puppet show of the new story “Urashima and Galapagos tortoises” for 100th anniversary of diplomatic reaction between Ecuador and Japan. And we will give our performance in Spain next year.

– We serve Vietnam style rice noodle. We have joined WMDF for 10 years.
– I didn’t know about WMDF. But my friend who has a restaurant in the Morning Market invited me to open the shop together because the Morning Market has quota of shop in WMDF. The quota is gone next year, so after that I have opened my shop with using individual quota.
3. What did WMDF make your shop?
– Of course it’s a Pho, rice noodles. We served it only in WMDF at first, but we reimported it and added our regular menu in CAMP5 now.
4. What is the feature of people coming to WMDF?
- I can see many people come to WMDF every year. Also many people come WMDF everyday. The repeater is the feature. Some people doesn’t know about this festival in Hakodate, so I really want more people know this festival and visit the festival.
5. Our theme is “New Beginning’ in WMDF this year. What is your “New Beginning”?
- I want customers to amuse not only to sell our food. One of WMDF shop dance and make nachos to the music “Mambo #5” and serve it to the customer for fun. I will try to make visual entertainment not only with food and want customers to enjoy our shop totally. Our service come to be sophisticated every year not only from this year. So, We want to grow up with WMDF.

1, What idea inspired you to come here?
– I came to the WMDF festival the night before and I found interesting performers. My friend, Brian asked me to come.
2, What was your best experience in WMDF festival?
– The performance of Yui George One Man Band was the best.
3, What do you think about Hakodate?
– I came here with my friends. There’re so many different cultures in this city. It’s a great place to be.
4, What is your New Beginning?
– This is my first visit of Hakodate. I already made a lot of new friends!
5, What is your own WMDF?

1, What inspired you to come here?
– We wanted to find a place that can make ourselves be noisy. We found out about this event last year so we’ve opened this shop in WMDF since last year.
2, Is there anyway that we can especially enjoy WMDF?
– This festival is very different from other festivals. Most festivals’ rationale to do festivals are to make money from people. However, in this case the reason to hold this festival is completely different. That means we can communicate more and we can be the part of this festival. It is a lot of fun for us to communicate with customers and other shop owners. It’s a huge chance to communicate with strangers too.
3, What do you think about Hakodate?
– In Hakodate, there’re so many delicious foods and nice people though it is unlikely that most of them are not known. It’s a sad thing. If we’re able to find those nice foods then this city will be bigger and bigger.
4, What is your own WMDF?

5, Could you tell us what is that statue? (They brought a statue with them)
– We carry this statue everywhere where we go. We found it in the dark old garage of our restaurant!
1, What inspired you to come here?
– Seven years ago, I was walking around this place and I found out about this festival. First I was an attendee but 3 years ago my friend asked me to open a shop in WMDF so I decided to open one.
2, Is there anyway we can especially enjoy WMDF?
– Stop Working and drink! There are so many things to do that people from young generation to older generations can enjoy this event.
3, What is your own WMDF?

1, What inspired you to come here?
– My friend performer Bonbangoo asked me to do a stage performance in this event a couple of years ago. My schedule was too busy that I could not afford to come to this festival. This is my first time to come to this event.
2, What to you want to deliver to the audience?
– I’m playing Kendama and I love it so I want people to see me enjoying my performance.
3, Is there anyway that we can especially enjoy WMDF?
– There are 3 or 4 chances for audience to watch the same artist performing, so look for your favorite performer and enjoy watching the performance. Also, this festival is based on the schedule. For street performers like me, I sometimes worry if people won’t watch me and pass. Based on schedule I feel more confident for myself and the people who want to watch my performance don’t have to spend time looking for me. Please enjoy this festival!
4, What do you think about Hakodate?
– The view from Hakodate Mountain is so nice. People are so nice here.
5, What is your New Beginning?
– I’m practicing Kendama everyday to increase my level. Everyday is New Beginning.
6, What is your own WMDF?

1, What inspired you to come here?
– Two years ago, when we played music on the stage of Nakashibetsu’s yamakawa farm, we were invited to this event from Hinokiya, the main group of this event.
2, What do you want to deliver through performance?
– Regardless of genre, we want to show that music is really fun and it can be the power of living our daily lives.
3, What do you think about Hakodate?
– We came to Hakodate twice. The culture and buildings are so unique. oh, and food is so delicious! Especially fish. When the food is nice, the alcohol tastes nicer.
4, What is your New Beginning?
– I’m not sure that is New Beginning but we’re investigating our unique music. We don’t compare to other people.
5, What is your WMDF?

1, What inspired you to come here?
– Ian (Co-president, Director of WMDF) came to see our stage and asked us to be a part of WMDF.
We accepted that idea and came to this event this year.
2, What do you want to deliver through your performance?
– Not only music but also we want to deliver cultures. We want to be a kind of bridge that can get across Japan and the world.
3, What do you think of Hakodate?
– We’ve been to Hakodate about 5~6 times, though this was our first time to look around the city of Hakodate. We went to the places really historical like Goryokaku.
4, What is your New Beginning?
– Meeting with many different audiences is a new thing. Meeting with new people make us feel better.

!, What inspired you to come here?
– We had the direct message from this event and we came here for the first time in 2013. This is our third visit to this event.
2, What do you want to deliver to the audience through the performance?
– We’re enjoying playing the music so we want them to like and enjoy our performances.
3, What do you think about Hakodate?
– This is our 4th visit to Hakodate as a group. Food is so nice here.
4, What is your New Beginning?
– We were playing arranged Celtic music. Although, we were enjoying arranging them, we thought it is better to expand our genre of Celtic music. Before, we only played Ireland and Scotland’s Celtic music. We started to practice and play Welsh, English, Canadian and some Australian Celtic cultured music.

1, What inspired you to come here?
– We and some staffs have known each other so they asked us to come to this event. This is our second visit of this event.
2, What do you want to deliver to the audience?
– We already finished the stage in WMDF so I want to say thank you to All the people who came and see us. Though the wether condition was bad, we’re glad to see you enjoying!
3, What do you think about Hakodate?
– We’re from Sapporo but, there’re not a lot of opportunity to come to Hakodate.
4, What is your New Beginning?
– Not only today but everyday is new beginning for us. Difference of audiences and places make us feeling like starting something new.
5, What is your own WMDF?
